HOUSTON -- An arrest has been made in a fatal parking lot confrontation at Meyerland Plaza, KPRC Local 2 reported Sunday.
Houston police said Brenda Romano, 56, died while saving her daughter's life.
Investigators said George Theobald, 39, ran over Romano and her daughter, Robyn, after a fender-bender on Saturday.
"I remember the guy hitting the back of the truck," Robyn Romano said. "OK, no big deal in a parking lot. Everybody's OK, right?"
Robyn Romano said she got out to exchange insurance information. Her mother walked up and started talking to the man who hit their pickup truck.
"He started to run and got into the car," Robyn Romano said. "He started to back up and I realized what he was doing. I'm standing there with my mom and the next thing I know, I'm pinned up against my dad's truck and this guy, he's driving a big SUV."
She said her mother came to her rescue.
"The next thing I know, my mom came running around the car and she pushed me and kept pushing me until I was clear of the car,," Robyn Romano said. "She didn't have time to get out herself."
Brenda Romano was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she died.
Robyn Romano was hospitalized for treatment of her injuries.
Investigators found the SUV on Sunday and arrested Theobald at a northwest Houston motel. Detectives said he gave a statement that implicated himself in the attack.
Theobald has been charged with murder and aggravated assault.
