HOUSTON, Texas -- Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run in Meyerland Plaza, involving a stolen SUV.
A woman was hit by the SUV in the parking lot outside the Lane Bryant Store.
Police said she was hit after an altercation that started over a minor-fender bender and escalated to a heated discussion.
According to witnesses , the victim got out of her truck to inspect the damage and moments later the driver ran the woman over.
Police said the woman was pinned between her truck and the suspect's silver SUV.
Several witnesses saw the accident in the parking lot and from the dozens of surrounding businesses.
"When he was speeding away he actually ran over her," said Jalene Blanscet, who witnessed the aftermath. "They said there were tire marks over her chest."
Police say the victim had severe injuries on her abdomen. Her name has not been released.
One woman who knew the victim said she was a grandmother who had her two grandchildren with her.
"The lady was banging on the window for him to stop," said one witness who did not give her name. "He continued on and she fell and then he took off and that's when he ran her over."
Witnesses say a doctor and one of the woman's relatives tried to administer CPR from the parking lot but they couldn't save her.
"He drove away and an off-duty HPD officer chased him and was able to get a license plate, so hopefully they'll get him and he'll spend his Thanksgiving in jail" , said Blanscet.
Police say the vehicle has been identified as a Silver Rang Rover with license plate 4-4-7-Y-F-J.
Police say the SUV likely has damage to the left rear.
The SUV was also reported stolen from the Montrose area on Oct. 10. It has been reported in about five or six other incidents.
The suspect is described as a white or possibly Middle Eastern male with a dark complexion.
