Parents Want Action At Intersection

Concerns were raised on Friday after a student was injured in a crash at an intersection near a northwest Harris County high school, KPRC Local 2 reported.

At about 7 a.m., two vehicles collided at the intersection of Northcrest Village Drive at Spring Stuebner Road. Investigators said the cars were driven by teenagers on their way to nearby Klein Oak High School.

Parents and students said there have been calls for additional safety measures at the intersection because it has been a problem in the past.

"It would be a good idea to put a traffic light. I believe so because of all the student traffic that comes in and out," said Trisha Flores.

Neighbors said they have complained for years about the traffic.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Department, between August and Nov. 12 of this year, 10 minor wrecks have occurred at the intersection.

Currently, there are two stop signs, but many believe it should be a four-way stop.

"When it's foggy and you can't see nothing, that's when the accidents happen," driver Lawrence Paulson said.

Paulson drives a private school bus. He said he goes out of his way to avoid the area, if possible.

"The safety and well-being of our students is our first priority. Students, parents and community members are concerned about the intersection at Spring Stuebner Road and Northcrest Village and so is the Klein Independent School District.

"We have been in communication with Precinct 4 about that intersection and they assure us that it is part of their capital improvement plan. Klein ISD will continue to stay in contact with Precinct 4 as they develop and implement the project," said Trazanna Moreno with the Klein Independent School District.

The student injured during Friday's crash was not identified and her condition was not released.
