Officers Search For Wounded Suspect

Officer C.R. Rohling, Man Got Into Struggle

POSTED: Monday, November 9, 2009
UPDATED: 12:06 pm CST November 9, 2009

A Houston police officer may have shot a burglary suspect on Sunday night, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Officer C.R. Rohling responded to a burglary at the Cambridge Apartments on Imperial Valley Drive Near Seminar Drive about 11:15 p.m.

As Rohling was leaving the complex, he spotted a man fitting the suspected burglar's description.

The man quickened his pace and Rohling approached him and gave him verbal commands to show his hands, police said.

Investigators said the man hid his hands in the pockets of a sweater he was wearing and backed away from Rohling. Rohling pulled out his gun and continued to give the man commands.

The man pulled out a gun and pointed it at Rohling, police said. Rohling reached for the man's gun and the two got into a struggle, officials said.

Rohling fired his gun at least once before he dropped it. There was blood left at the scene, indicating that the man may have been wounded.

The man ran away with his gun and Rohling's gun, investigators said. He dropped both guns while fleeing, officials said.

He was described as black, in his early to mid 20s, about 6 feet tall with short hair and some facial hair. He was last seen wearing a white tank top and either blue jeans or long blue jean shorts.

Police said Rohling is a five-year veteran with the Houston Police Department and is assigned to the North Patrol Division.

Anyone with information is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
