HOUSTON, Texas -- A Houston police officer fatally shot a man during a struggle, KPRC Local 2 reported Sunday.
Investigators said two officers with the department's crime reduction unit spotted three men walking through a parking lot on Bellaire Boulevard near Rampart Street at about 11 p.m. Saturday.
The officers noticed one of the men had an open beer, which is a class C misdemeanor, police said.
The officers stopped the men and started searching them for weapons. Police said one of the men tried to run and ended up struggling with officers.
A resident said she witnessed the struggle from her balcony.
"There's a lot of drinking and a lot of stuff going on around here," said Natalie Galvez. "Like around 9, you can't be outside because there's a lot of dangerous things."
Detectives said that during the struggle, the man pulled a pistol from his waistband. One of the officer fired several times, hitting the man.
The 26-year-old man died at the scene, police said.
The names of the officers involved have not been released.
