Northwest Harris County, Texas -- Six-year-old Makaylin Angel, was laid to rest after being killed on Monday by a suspected drunken driver.

The beautiful, sunny day may not have seemed right for such a sad occasion, but the little girl's father said it was fitting.

"That was our angel and she was like a bright ray of sunshine to a lot of people, not just me and her momma," Brandon Angel said.

That was apparent by the scene outside of the church, as it overflowed with people wanting to pay their final respects.

"It was just hard seeing the little girl in the casket," Pandora Jubilee said as she left the church.

Even harder for some is the way they say is how little Makaylin's life was taken.

She was just walking in her neighborhood when investigators said Larry Womack lost control of his vehicle and rolled it, hitting Makaylin.

They said her 4-year-old sister may have also been hit had she not been pushed out of the way by her grandmother.

Investigators suspect Womack was under the influence of alcohol.

"It's a situation you want to keep yourself from getting into,because you're not hurting yourself, you're hurting everybody really," Angel said.

Court records show that Womack was convicted of DWI in 1978,1997 and in 2007.

However, investigators said he still managed to get behind the wheel, and without the breath tester that had been in his car.

"He had a guardian interlock that had been placed in his vehicle that had recently been removed and had that remained we can certainly speculate that the little girl would be alive today," victims rights advocate Andy Kahan said.

Saturday night, Womack was still at Memorial Hermann Hospital. The hospital was not releasing any new information on his condition, but Thursday Womack was listed in critical condition.

"If he makes it, I'll be happy that he makes it," Angel said. "At the same time, it's something he'll have to face for the rest of his life."
