Houston -- The pastor from America's largest church is getting ready to release his third book. Joel Osteen said the book's message is so important now, more than ever, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.
Osteen is known as the positive pastor, leading Lakewood Church. Thousands pack the former Compact Center every weekend and millions more tune in to watch him preach every week on television.
This is something he didn't even think was possible.
"For me to be sitting here right now, you know 10 years ago I was working behind the scenes and this is an amazing thing," said Osteen.
The building is not only his sanctuary but it is also a place where he grew up and has fond memories.
"You know I had season tickets here growing up," Osteen said. "I watched the Rockets. This is where I brought Victoria on our first date, to a Rockets basketball game, so it just lets me know that God's dream for our life is bigger than our own."
And it's in Osteen's third book, "It's Your Time," that he focuses on achieving dreams.
He agreed that at some point being labeled a dreamer is not a compliment.
"I think so I believe God puts things in all of us that are bigger than what we're doing right now," Osteen said. "I tell people all the time you wouldn't be alive if God didn't have another victory in front of you. There's potential in there. I've seen it in my own life. I never dreamed I could get up and speak in front of people I didn't do it for 36 years but then it just came out when my dad died."
Sharing his stories on how his faith helped him and others through difficult times, Osteen says not to give into depression or discouragement. Better days are ahead.
Even Osteen admits, it's not easy being optimistic all the time.
"You know I don't get up every day feeling great but I do try to make a decision and say you know what I'm going to be grateful for what I have," Osteen said. "It's a discipline to say you're not going to waste this day being negative."
Osteen's first two books focused more on principles on how to improve your life and reaching full potential. He says it was time to focus on inspiration. He's been working on "It's Your Time" for a few years. Osteen said the challenging times we are in as a country is perfect timing for his new book.
"You know more than ever, I want to lift people's spirits and let them know that God is still in control," said Osteen.
The book starts with a chapter called "You're Closer Than You Think." Osteen explained this was almost the title of the book.
"I was hiking one day in Colorado and I thought I would never get to the top of this mountain," Osteen said. "This old man was making his way back down the mountain. Without any other words, he didn't know me, he said, you're closer than you think. That just breathed new life into my legs and lungs. Come to find out, I was just 10 minutes from the top. Without him telling me that, I may have stopped I may have thought you know I'm never going to make it."
He said this is a life lesson for everyone. And feels the book is timely, given the economy, he knows many families are in the struggle of their lives.
"My goal would be to inspire people to get out of any discouragement or complacency and really rise up and go after what God has put in your heart," said Osteen.
"It's Your Time: Activate Your Faith, Accomplish Your Dreams and Increase in God's Favor" goes on sale Nov. 3.
