Deputies: Men Tried To Lure 4 Girls

Children Refuse Advances

POSTED: Thursday, October 22, 2009
UPDATED: 8:15 am CDT October 23, 2009

Two men may have tried to abduct four children from a Montgomery County park on Thursday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Tamina Community Park

Montgomery County sheriff's deputies said the four girls -- all between the ages of 5 and 7 -- were approached at Tamina Community Park at about 4:30 p.m.

"They were playing in the park and a white vehicle approached them and tried to get them inside the car," said Passion Jones, two of the girls' mother.

Jones said the girls immediately ran away, which she had taught them to do if they were approached by a stranger. She said the men ran once they were spotted by adult supervisors.

The girls were participating in a YMCA after-school group that meets in the park daily.

"Officials that work for the Y came out," Jones said. "The children were pointing and they were able to call police and let someone know they were trying to get the kids."

Investigators said the car was a white 2002 Chevrolet Malibu with tape covering the space where the passenger-side window should have been. It was driven by a white man with a black beard.

Mark Cochran, executive director of the South County YMCA, said he was going to ask for extra law enforcement patrols in the area.

“Our staff contacted authorities as soon as they learned about the incident,” Cochran said in a statement. “We are relieved and thankful that none of the children was harmed.”

The children were not injured in the incident.
