HOUSTON -- A man has been charged with sexual abuse of a child and promoting child pornography after he left something behind at a garage sale, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.
Victor Hernandez, 60, is now in custody, but how he got there is by shear determination and a little luck, according to investigators.
They said Hernandez went to a garage sale on Elysian Street in late July and dropped a flash drive full of photos.
Someone cleaning up found the flash drive and was horrified by what they saw on it.
Investigators said the memory card had 193 photos of an Hispanic male performing sexual acts with two juvenile Hispanic females, ages 7 and 4.
It took time to track Hernandez down through the pictures police said he took, but investigators did not give up. They searched 33 schools until they finally found a first-grader who recognized the children, according to investigators.
"It's horrifying. I don't know what I would do … I really don't," said Noel Moreno, who lives near where the garage sale was held.
Moreno has two daughters and said she's glad her neighbor called police.
"I thank God for that. We would have never known, and he could have gotten my kids," said Moreno.
Hernandez is being held in Harris County Jail with bond set at $90,000.
