HOUSTON -- There have not been any homicides in the city of Houston for 10 straight days, police told KPRC Local 2.
Houston police said they did not have any reports from Oct. 10 through Tuesday.
Veteran homicide investigators said they cannot remember a week in the past decade when there wasn't a new case.
"We welcome this lull in violent crime due, perhaps, to an increased focus of police resources to hot spots throughout the city," Police Chief Harold Hurtt said.
There have been 232 killings reported in Houston in 2009, down from 242 at the same point in 2008.
