County Shuts Down Nightclub

A northwest Houston nightclub will be closing its doors forever after Harris County attorneys evicted the business for its troubled past, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.

Harris County attorneys evicted Eclipse Nightclub near Interstate 45 on F.M. 1960 at a hearing in Spring.

County attorneys said the nightclub was notorious for being a place where drugs were sold, and alcohol was sold after-hours.

But what prompted the push for the eviction was, according to county attorneys, a homicide at the club in July that left one security guard dead and another injured after a gunman opened fire.

Harris County attorneys said the landlord of the location cooperated with officials to get the tenants evicted.

Ivonne Alvarado represented the club at the hearing. Alvarado's name is on the lease, but she claims her husband owned the club and borrowed her name for the lease.

Alvarado did not speak English, but a friend translated for her, saying Alvarado claims her husband and two of his associates ran the operation.

"The associates who just kept control kept running the business, kept all the money, never paid the rent," said Naemi Hernandez. "They never wanted to get out, and now she's getting stuck with it for letting them borrow her name."

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said the operation's license to sell alcohol expired more than a year ago.

During the time the business was granted a permit, from 2007 to 2008, the TABC found several violations, including the selling alcohol after 2:15 a.m. and possession of drugs on an employee.
