A Houston-area woman spends her lunch hour working to reduce her waistline. Actually, she lets someone else do the work for her through a new procedure.

BellaContour

Public relations maven Katina Kearns logs about 12 to 15 hours a day on the job.

Kearns told Local 2, "It's just almost impossible these days with my schedule to get into the gym. I'm here to reduce my waistline by a couple of inches and maybe slim down my thighs a little bit as well."

Shapes Body Contouring owner Dr. Robin Owen said his clinic is the first in America to have the new FDA-approved BellaContour device that uses ultrasound to break down fat and cellulite in targeted areas such as the stomach, upper arms, buttocks and thighs.

Owen explained, "Program A treats the first inch below the skin's surface and then we switch to program B, which missed the first inch, but penetrates down 2-3 inches below that. There is not another treatment out there that's non-invasive and going to achieve that."

His patients said they've seen results fast.

Kearns said, "I've lost 2 1/2 inches already and I've only had six treatments."

Patient Cathy Nelson said after 15 treatments, she dropped 20 pounds and 20 inches from her body.

Nelson added, "I've gonefrom a size 14 down to an 8. I was used to big baggy clothes and depression, and not wanting to go out to eat, much less put on a bathing suit, so I'm happy. It's changed my life entirely."

Owen said the patients are men and women of all ages who want to lost those stubborn "love handles" and "muffin tops," but it's not a magic wand.

Owen explained when patients come to him, "They're cutting down on food. They're trying diet and exercise, but nothing changes. This really helps accelerate things, so that if patients augment our treatment with diet and exercise, they see great results."

The treatments are not covered by insurance. A package of 10 runs about $2,500.
