Woman Admits To Credit Card Fraud

Amber Schneider Admits To Defrauding Banks

POSTED: Tuesday, October 20, 2009
UPDATED: 11:56 am CDT October 20, 2009

A woman has pleaded guilty to credit card fraud, manufacturing false military spouse identification and conspiracy, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.

Amber Schneider, 23, admitted to United States District Judge Nancy Atlas that she and others executed a scheme using false military identification cards and access devices from January through July to defraud several banks of more than $145,000.

U.S. Attorney Tim Johnson said Schneider and Todd Neuwirth, who has also been indicted, got several unauthorized credit card numbers from other participants in the scheme and ordered others online using incomplete information. They then made fake identification cards that appeared to have been issued by the U.S. Department of Defense to match the names on the credit cards.

Schneider used the fake cards to get banks to pay for fraudulent cash advances, officials said. Neuwirth waited outside the bank with a phone and posed as a credit card company representative in case the transaction was questioned.

Schneider will be sentenced in January. She faces up to 15 years in prison, up to a $250,000 fine and up to three years of supervised release.
