Student Reported Incident Near Kashmere Gardens Elementary

POSTED: Tuesday, October 6, 2009
UPDATED: 6:15 pm CDT October 6, 2009

A middle school student was almost kidnapped before class Monday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston Independent School District officials said a Fleming Middle School student reported that the incident happened near Kashmere Gardens Elementary School at about 7:40 a.m.

The 13-year-old boy said a man sitting in a car in the 3800 block of Wipprecht in northeast Houston told him to come over and then grabbed the student's shirt. The student got away and ran to a friend's house.

The student described the attacker as black with a dark complexion and between 40 and 50 years old. He was last seen wearing a brown jogging suit with green stripes and a baseball cap. The man's vehicle was described as multi-colored and possibly a station wagon.

Houston and HISD police are investigating the incident. HISD police have added extra patrols in the area.

Officials recommended parents do the following:

  • Be on the lookout for and report any suspicious people in the area.
  • Escort children to school if they are walkers or to their bus stop if they ride the bus.
  • Have children who walk to/from school travel in groups.
  • Remind children to run away and make noise if they are approached by a stranger.
