An elementary school teacher has been diagnosed with meningitis, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Angleton Independent School District Officials said they were notified Saturday of the diagnosis of a Frontier Elementary School teacher. Officials have not said if the teacher has bacterial or viral meningitis.

"We are treating this situation with the utmost care and importance," Superintendent Heath Burns said.

Burns said the parents of the teacher's students have been notified of the diagnosis. Parents with questions or concerns were urged to contact their personal physicians.

The Brazoria County Health Department has recommended that persons not receive preventative treatment.
