HOUSTON -- A TABC agent who was shot while working security for a jewelry salesman was released from the hospital Friday after being shot during an attempted theft, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Michael Sehon, 40, has been an agent with the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission for five-and-a-half years. Around 3:30 pm, he was working a second job as security outside the Hilton Garden Inn.
"Mike is an employee who works for me," said Captain Rick Cruz with TABC. "He cares a lot about his work and always has a positive attitude. He was just working an extra job."
But a handgun, shattered glass and bullets in the parking lot proved it was not just an ordinary day for Sehon.
Houston police said he was escorting a jewelry salesman in a car when they stopped at the Inn. The salesman was running an errand inside, and police said that's when trouble started.
"He was sitting in the driver's seat and was approached by two masked suspects who broke out the windows and placed a gun at the TABC officer's head," said Jodi Silva with Houston Police.
Police believe the suspects were looking for jewelry, but did not get any. Instead, a gunfight started. Sehon was shot in the left leg just above the knee.
He was released from a hospital Friday night. Doctors said despite a limp, there was no major damage.
"I think this is one of those situations that could have happened to any officer," said Cruz.
Meanwhile, police were questioning a man Friday night who was dropped off at Southwest Memorial Hermann with two gunshot wounds to his back. They said he could be connected to the attempted robbery.
The manhunt continues for at least one other suspect.
