Mom Charged In 11-Year-Old's Death

Latarsha Davis Charged With Making Handgun Accessible To Minor

A mother has been charged in connection with her 11-year-old son's shooting death, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.

Latarsha Davis has been charged with making a handgun accessible to a minor.

Houston police said Davis' 13-year-old son accidentally shot and killed her 11-year-old son, LaTorick Watson, at their home on Blanchard Hill Lane on Aug. 12.

Investigators said Davis' boyfriend, Ronnie Brown, picked up the gun and put it in his trunk. He was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence and assault of a family member.

The gun used in LaTorick's death belonged to Brown, police said. Davis said she did not know that it was loaded and on her bed.

"I'm upset that it was in my home," Davis told KPRC Local 2 in a previous interview. "I'm upset that it was on my bed and, yeah, I'm mad at him."

Davis said she does have a gun of her own and she keeps it away from her children and unloaded. She said she bought the gun to protect her family after several break-ins at her home and in the neighborhood.
