HOUSTON -- Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport will receive $1.9 million in grant money to repair damage from Hurricane Ike, KPRC Local 2 reported Tuesday.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency said it is reimbursing the state 90 percent of the total cost of the repairs.
Intercontinental had broken windows, the automated people movers and the inter-terminal trains stopped working and all five terminals had structural and water damage from Ike.
"Getting transportation systems working is an important step in the recovery process," said Federal Coordinating Officer Brad Harris. "This grant demonstrates FEMA's commitment to helping the city of Houston get back to normalcy after the storm."
In all, federal assistance to Texas for the Hurricane Ike recovery effort tops $2.5 billion, officials said.
