HOUSTON -- Residents who live around the Houston office of the doctor who was with Michael Jackson when he died have mixed reactions to the national spotlight converging on their community, KPRC Local 2 reported Wednesday.
Gertha Giles said Dr Conrad Murray saved her mother's life and now, she's hoping to help save his reputation.
"We love you. We're going to stand behind you," said Giles. "There's no way, no way, I could ever believe he'd do anything to lower his character or standards."
She held up a sign that read "love you doc" and "innocent" outside Murray's office in Acres Homes.
Earlier Wednesday, Houston police along with detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department and Drug Enforcement Agency spent two and a half hours sifting through medical records inside.
"I just cannot believe he's going through this. He's just a beautiful person," said Giles. "I'm sure Michael Jackson fell in love with him the same way I did."
Murray was with Jackson when he died on June 25. Murray was in Las Vegas, where he has a home and a practice, while the search was conducted.
The warrant was sealed and investigators were not saying much.
Murray's attorney said the officers were looking for evidence of manslaughter.
Detectives left with cases of documents and a forensic image of a computer hard drive. They would not say how the search might be connected to Jackson's death.
KPRC Local 2 legal analyst Brian Wice said the search could be about establishing a pattern of conduct.
"The fact that the DEA was involved gives some indication Dr. Murray's prior practice might not meet federal standards," Wice said.
At a Bible class a block away at Phillips Temple Church, people said they're praying for Murray. They said this kind of attention is not good for their neighborhood.
"There's something going on. They're picking and fishing," said Rufus Graves. "They don't do that for nothing."
