NEW YORK -

Nissan is recalling thousands of vehicles because of a problem that could cause people to lose control and crash.

Certain model year 2012 and 2013 Altima vehicles are being recalled because their bolts could become loose and fall out, increasing the risk of a car crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on its website that the vehicles may have been equipped with transverse link bolts and power steering rack bolts that were not torqued to proper specification.

The 13,900 vehicles were made from May 10 through July 26.

Dealers will tighten the bolts to the proper specifications.

The recall is expected to begin on or about Oct. 29.

Owners with questions should call Nissan at 1-800-647-7261.
