"We've been a part of the Houston community for more than 76 years and want to do our part to help curb hunger in our city," said Dave White, director of sales for Mrs. Baird's.

The bread was donated to the Houston Food Bank on Monday morning.

"Though fresh bread is a staple in most households, it is not available to food bank clients as often as we would like because of limited shelf life," said Houston Food Bank President Brian Greene. "To be able to provide our member agencies and the people that they serve with fresh, nutritious whole wheat bread truly is a special gift."

The delivery was split up between Impact Houston and Bethel's Heavenly Hand's food banks to be given immediately to needy families.
