2 wanted in 3 copper thefts

HOUSTON – Police are searching for two people who stole copper from two northwest Harris County doughnut shops.

Houston police said a man scaled the Shipley Do-Nuts store in the 1400 block of West Mount Houston about 2 a.m. on Wednesday, and it was all caught on camera.

While on the roof, the man threw copper coils down to the ground, police said.

"They brought their own tools, removed the coil and threw it off the roof," Officer Audie Cohn said.

The man later got off the roof, appearing winded, and he and a woman then loaded the copper into an SUV, investigators said.

Police said the man knows exactly what he's doing.

"He cur the lines, let the Freon drain out then returned back 30 minutes later," Cohn said.

Cohn said the duo has done this same thing before. They targeted the Shipley Do-Nuts in the 5300 block of Bingle on Friday and Monday.

It's going to cost the shops about $10,000 to repair the damages in each unit. The thief will get about $50 by selling them, police said.

Once captured, the man and woman will be charged with felony theft.

Anyone with information is asked to call the HPD Metal Theft Unit at 281-405-6568 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
