The impact sent the car into a ditch, and sent the pickup rolling over before landing upside down.

The truck then caught on fire, with both the driver and passenger trapped inside. They were unable to get out of the pickup in time, and both died at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the car was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in serious condition.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.

Police said their investigation is ongoing.
