2nd death confirmed in Northwest Houston shooting
HOUSTON -

A second person has died after being shot outside a northwest Houston fast-food restaurant.

The shooting occurred at the Taco Cabana restaurant at 11305 Clay Road and Beltway 8 at 8 p.m. Monday.

Investigators said customers were inside the restaurant when the shooting happened in the parking lot.

"We had two vehicles in the parking lot of the Taco Cabana. They were exchanging words with each other. One gentleman pulled out a weapon and started firing at the vehicle and the secondary vehicle drove off," said M. Kahn with the Houston Police Department.

Seconds later, the driver of the second car slammed into several trees a few blocks away, police said.

The driver was killed. The passenger was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where the passenger died early Tuesday.

"They were not customers of the Taco Cabana. We don't know why they were in the parking lot," said Kahn.

Police said the killer escaped in an older S-500 Mercedes.

According to authorities, an argument, possibly over drugs, sparked the shooting.

More than a dozen shots were fired into the second car at the scene. At one point, investigators used Taco Cabana cups as evidence markers before the crime scene technicians showed up.

The victims' names were not released.
