2 rescued from overturned kayak in Missouri City lake

Officials: 1 person in critical condition

MISSOURI CITY, Texas – A father and daughter were rescued Friday afternoon after their kayak had overturned in a Missouri City lake.

Police said the incident happened around 4:00 p.m. on a body of water near Lexington and Murphy Road.

Firefighters said the kayak the pair was riding in had somehow flipped over, which caused them both to fall into the cold lake. While one of the victims had held onto the overturned kayak, the other struggled to tread water.

According to officials, a Missouri City police officer, the City of Stafford's fire chief, a Missouri City fire inspector and a bystander rushed in to help pull the father and daughter from the lake.

With one boater in critical condition and the other stable, the both of them were rushed to be treated at Methodist Sugar Land Hospital.

Currently, neither of the boater's names have been released. The Missouri City Police Department said they will investigate this case.
