Mother confesses to killing 2-month-old son, police say

NEEDVILLE, Texas – A Needville mother is in the Fort Bend County Jail on Wednesday after police said she confessed to killing her 2-month-old son.

Rosemary Harrah, 20, is charged with injury to a child. Investigators said that charge is likely to be upgraded to capital murder because the child was younger than 10 years old.

Deputies said they went to Harrah’s home in the 12100 block of Mueck Road on the morning of Dec. 11, to investigate a report that the child had stopped breathing.

The baby was found lying in his crib, deputies said.

Investigators said there were no marks on his body and no signs of internal injuries.

Detective Thomas Cantu ordered an autopsy.

About a week and a half later, Cantu said, investigators received a tip that focused suspicion on Harrah.

“We got an anonymous tip that the mother of the decedent posted that she wanted to hurt her child,” Cantu said.

Harrah posted the statement on Glow Nurture, a pregnancy tracking phone application and website that provides information and community support for new and expectant mothers, according to investigators.

Cantu said Harrah was called in for further questioning, and confessed that she’d killed her baby.

“In my interview with her, she admitted some acts that contributed to the baby’s death,” Cantu said.

Cantu wouldn't say exactly what those acts were, or what possible motive Harrah may have had for killing the infant.

“With the ongoing investigation, she did give some motive, but right now I don’t want to discuss that matter,” Cantu said.

Harrah was jailed Dec. 27.

The exact cause of the child’s death has yet to be determined. The medical examiner is waiting for toxicology tests to be complete the autopsy. That could take several weeks.

Harrah is currently being held in jail on $500,000 bond.
