NY AG declares DraftKings, FanDuel illegal gambling and other business news

HOUSTON – New York's attorney general is declaring daily fantasy sports an illegal form of gambling.

The state's top attorney ordered DraftKings and FanDuel to cease and desist operations in the state. Attorney General Eric Schneider said the contests run by the companies are neither harmless nor victimless.

Both companies reacted, and said they don't run games of chance, but games of skill. A number of other state regulators have taken similar steps.

Meanwhile, Joe's Crab Shack customers might notice something a little strange on their next trip to the restaurant. The chain will become the first national full-service restaurant to eliminate tipping. The company will instead raise servers' wages to $14 per hour. To pay for the increased wages and lack of tips, Joe's Crab Shack will raise prices by 12 to 15 percent.
