Two people were killed and another was injured after a short high-speed police chase ended in a rollover crash in Fort Bend County.
The crash happened around 2 a.m. Monday on South Mason Road and the Westpark Tollway.
A Fort Bend County sheriff's deputy said he spotted a vehicle speeding down Texas 99 near F.M. 1093. The deputy chased the vehicle for about a minute and a half, but it turned onto F.M. 1093 and the deputy lost sight of the car.
The deputy later found the car after it had crashed into a metal pole and rolled several times.
"It was all the parts ... it was like a plane had just landed and just blew up and went everywhere," said Claude Griffin, who works about 50 feet from where the crash happened. "The parts, you could just hear them bouncing off the concrete."
The driver, Juan Carlos Cordero, 25, and a back seat passenger, Elizabeth Agudelo, 21, died at the scene.
A second passenger, Nancy Lisset Munguia, 20, was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital. On Monday afternoon, she was listed in fair condition.
"In a way, we're fortunate that nobody else was involved," Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office spokesman Bob Haenel said. "Still, it's a tragic end to situation that shouldn't have occurred."
DPS was investigating the accident.
