2 hurt in crash during police chase

HOUSTON – A man was arrested after a police chase ended with a crash.

Houston police said they were called out to the Kingsgate Apartments in the 12000 block of Martin Luther King near Park Village about 2:30 p.m. after getting a report that a man was breaking into his mother's apartment.

An officer arrived at the complex and spotted the man, investigators said.

The officer confronted the man as he got into a vehicle. The man hit the officer in the chest with a car and then took off, police said.

The man then led officers on a chase that lasted nearly 15 minutes, investigators said.

The chase was called off, but officers found the vehicle again in the 9400 block of Cullen near Wilmington, where the fleeing driver crashed into an SUV.

A woman and 10-year-old child in the SUV suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment.

The fleeing driver bailed out of the vehicle but was arrested a short time later. His name has not been released, but police said he will face charges of aggravated assault on a public servant, evading arrest and failure to stop and render aid.
