2 firefighters injured in 2-alarm apartment fire

Two firefighters were injured and transported to the hospital after battling a two-alarm apartment fire in northwest Houston.

Firefighters responded to a call in the 1800 block of Wirt Rd. and Amelia Rd. around 4 a.m. Thursday, according to Houston Fire Department.

A three-story unit was engulfed with flames, officials said.

One firefighter fell through the roof and and had tests performed at Memorial Hermann Hospital. He is expected to be OK.

A second firefighter was injured, but the nature of his injury was not released. He was treated at Memorial Hermann Hospital and released.

Flames gutted the building, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
