HOUSTON - Two people were flown to a hospital after they nearly drowned at a southwest Houston diving training facility.
The incident happened at The Ocean Corporation in Rockley near Wilcrest on Wednesday morning.
"We've been a school for over 40 years. We've never had anything like this before. We're pleased our instructors acted quickly and appropriately," said Jeff Brown, director of student services for The Ocean Corporation.
Brown said the men who almost drowned are students at the Ocean Corporation. They were being trained in underwater diving to work on oil rigs and underwater construction.
The 28-year-old and 34-year-old men, who were wearing diving equipment, became trapped inside a tank and had to be rescued, Brown said.
Brown would not elaborate on how much water was in the tank or if the students were properly equipped with air tanks and helmets.
"Our major concern was the health, safety and welfare of the injured and the students, and make sure they were OK," said Brown.
Both victims were taken by helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.
