Investigators said two people died when a small plane crashed in a North Texas field.
The Department of Public Safety said the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. Sunday in Ellis County.
Sgt. Lonny Haschel said the site was near Bardwell, located about 35 miles south of Dallas.
Haschel said witnesses said the single-engine Beechcraft leveled off as if to make an emergency landing but appeared to stall and crashed into a tree.
Authorities are trying to determine what caused the accident.
Federal Aviation Administration records show the plane was registered to an Austin man. The FAA says the aircraft was bound for Lakeway Airpark near Austin.
Names of the victims were not immediately released. Nobody else was on board.
