HOUSTON -

Two people were critically injured after crashing their vehicles in north Houston.

It happened around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of N. Shepherd and W. Rittenhouse.

Houston police say a vehicle traveling westbound on Rittenhouse was trying to cross Shepherd when it was hit by an SUV that couldn’t stop in time.

Officials say the SUV crashed into the side of the car – sending both vehicles into a parking lot, where the SUV hit a pole.

The driver of the SUV had to be extracted from her vehicle and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Houston police say the man driving the car was also taken to the hospital in critical condition.
