WEBSTER, Texas - Two men were charged Thursday in connection with a burglary, sexual assault and kidnapping.
James Barnett, 55, has been charged with one count of aggravated robbery and two counts of aggravated kidnapping. Charles Allen Jacobson, 33, have been charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of aggravated kidnapping.
Webster police said the ordeal started about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday in Webster, when Barnett and Jacobson entered a home on Anne Drive through the back door.
Investigators said the men tied up three residents and then sexually assaulted the mother and her daughter.
The intruders loaded up the three into family's Suburban about 8 a.m. and drove 11 miles to Alvin, police said. According to investigators, the men were going to kill the victims and leave them in a field near FM 528 and 35.
Police said Barnett did not want anything to do with the killing. Authorities said all five got back in the Suburban and headed home. Somewhere along the way, police said Barnett and Jacobson stopped for beer twice and one of the intruders fired his gun into the Suburban's windshield.
After they returned to the house, Barnett and Jacobson forced the victims to help gather crime evidence, police said.
"The boy went and got the handgun that they had in the house and confronted the two of them. One guy took off running," said Chief Ray Smiley.
Neighbors helped lead police to Jacobson. Police said the Barnett took off in a maroon truck and was later arrested in Dickinson.
The mother and her daughter were taken to the hospital.
