One of those men went inside the store and tried to take cash from the register and safe, investigators said.

Unbeknownst to the crooks, several people across the street saw the whole thing.  One of them called the Houston Police Department, giving them updates on what the crooks were doing, police said.

According to reports, officers arrived at the scene just as the men were getting into a car that was parked around the corner.

Officers were able to catch up to them and arrest them without incident.

The stolen items were also recovered at the scene.
