HOUSTON – A man and his niece were found dead in a Montgomery County home, and investigators suspect they may have both overdosed.
The bodies of 43-year-old Norman Armstrong and his 15-year-old niece were found on Rose Mill Drive near Queens Glen Drive in Kingwood on Wednesday afternoon.
Montgomery County sheriff's deputies said Armstrong's sister and the owner of the home he was renting found the bodies.
Investigators said the sister went to the home because she had not heard from her brother and he did not go to work on Wednesday.
"He was a good kid," Armstrong's father, Norman Armstrong, Sr. said. "He showed up at work all the time."
The bodies of the man and girl were found on a bed in one of the bedrooms. They were both fully clothed, officials said.
Narcotics were found in the home, detectives said. The victim's father said he's not surprised and that his son had been fighting an alcohol addiction.
The homeowner said the younger Armstrong was acting unusual on Tuesday night.
"I did walk through his room and see a few of his artifacts and it pulled at the heart strings but I just can't do anything about it," Armstrong, Sr. said."He'd been pretty clean for the past month. I'd been watching him pretty close."
He said a father should never have to outlive his son and is doing his best to cope.
"I'm going to have to take care of my life and my family and go about my business," he said.
The name of the girl has not been released. Autopsies will be performed on both bodies Thursday. Tests will also be conducted on the narcotics found in the home so investigators can determine exactly what they are.
