2 arrested after police chase

HOUSTON – A driver in a stolen pickup truck led police officers on a chase through southeast Houston on Wednesday, investigators said

Houston police said the chase went along state Highway 288, through neighborhood streets, onto the South Loop, back onto state Highway 288 and through neighborhood streets again.

A garbage truck helped block in the driver on Ennis and Wheeler about 11:20 a.m., investigators said. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Oscar Melvin Brown, hit a parked car and a patrol car before jumping out of the pickup truck and running away, police said.

A police dog helped capture Brown, police said. Investigators said Brown punched the police dog and tried to choke it. Police said the dog suffered a cut paw, but he was back on the job Wednesday afternoon.

Detectives said they used a Taser gun to subdue Brown. It took three officers to wrestle him down and handcuff him, officials said.

Kimberly King

A passenger, 34-year-old Kimberly King, was also arrested, police said. She was wanted on two counts of aggravated assault. Police said they were actually looking for her, not Brown, before the chase began.

Charges against Brown are pending.
