Two Central Texas women have been indicted in a health care fraud investigation involving nearly $3.4 million in alleged bogus claims.
Federal prosecutors in Houston say Yolanda Nowlin and Carla Parnell were arrested Thursday on charges of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, health care fraud, conspiracy to pay kickbacks and theft of government money.
Investigators say Nowlin owned Yellabone Medical Equipment Inc. in Bryan and Parnell was its office manager.
The seven-count indictment was returned Nov. 28 and unsealed Thursday. Both women from Bryan face initial court appearances.
Prosecutors say the billing and kickbacks scheme involved operations from mid-2003 through 2009. Investigators say the women submitted fraudulent claims to Medicare and Medicaid and were paid more than $1.1 million.
