Man Shows Patriotism Through Lights

By Ryan Korsgard

A Baytown man is putting on a patriotic show at his home, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.

There are no fireworks in the show at 705 Meadowglen.  A 7,000-light display started with some friends' suggestions to Don Galaway.  In January, he started putting the pieces together -- complete with lots of cables, connections and circuits.

"July 4 is one of my favorite holidays," said Galaway. "I don't know, times are kinda' tough right now. I think people need some encouragement and I thought, well, you know, maybe I can make somebody forget their problems for a few minutes."

The 20-minute light show happens three times each night. Galaway's own little radio station broadcasts the music. People watch the show from their kitchen chairs.

"I am amazed! Absolutely amazed," Baytown resident Eleanor Albon said. "This is as professional a job as could be done.  This is just amazing.  Our neighbor here in Baytown did it!"

The patriotic salute continues through July 4.  The shows start at 8:45 p.m. each night.
