BAYTOWN, Texas -- A Baytown police officer pulled a suspect from a burning car that flipped over Thursday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Police said shortly before 2 a.m., Officer R. Parker was traveling east on Interstate 10 with three prisoners in his patrol car when he saw a van speed past him. He said the van was going more than 100 mph and weaving through lanes of traffic.
Parker turned on his emergency lights and siren to slow the driver down. The van sped off and Parker did not pursue it for safety reasons, investigators said.
Parker said he spotted the same van at the intersection of Interstate 10 at Sheffield, upside down and engulfed in flames.
The officer broke the driver's side window open and freed the driver, Adan Quiroz, 29, from the car.
Parker injured his ankle. Quiroz was unharmed.
Quiroz was arrested and charged with evading arrest.
