HOUSTON -- Faculty leaders at Texas A&M University overwhelmingly approved a no-confidence vote Tuesday, aimed at the university system's chancellor, Mike McKinney, KPRC Local 2 reported.
They voted 55-9 in favor of the resolution. The resolution states that the principles guiding Texas A&M are on the verge of collapse due to shortsighted and irresponsible behavior at the highest levels of the system's administration.
The faculty has been highly critical of the handling of now-former president Elsa Murano, including McKinney's performance assessment in which he rated Murano low in a number of leadership categories.
McKinney was not at the meeting and through his spokesman said he had no comment on the vote.
Another resolution passed during Tuesday's meeting requested more time to find a new president. The chairman of the board, Morris Foster, said he hoped Texas A&M would have a new president in six months. The Senate faculty said it would like the university to take more time in finding the right person for the job, so everyone at stake -- students, faculty and staff -- has ample time to weigh in on each candidate.
