HOUSTON -- The dry, hot weather has caused some areas to issue mandatory or voluntary water restrictions, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.
Conroe is in stage two of its drought contingency plan. Residents are prohibited from watering lawns, washing vehicles and filling pools during the day. They are allowed to do those activities only between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m.
Pearland,
Sugar Land and The Woodlands are under voluntary water restrictions.
In Sugar Land, residents with even-numbered addresses are encouraged to water laws on Thursdays and Sundays. Odd-numbered addresses should be watered on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
"Dry, hot weather in Sugar Land typically results in increased water consumption, primarily from watering of lawns and landscaped areas," Water Resources Manager Justin Bower said. "While the city has ample water supply even in drought conditions, voluntary water conservation measures can greatly reduce the demand at peak times during the day. Getting ahead of drought conditions through voluntary conservation reduces the likelihood that the city will need to initiate its Drought Contingency Plan."
Officials said the demand is greatest during weekday mornings and early Sunday evenings.
Sugar Land also provided the following water conservation tips.
Avoid cutting lawns too short Repair leaks Run faucets only when using them Install water-efficient fixtures
