A man has been accused of shooting his girlfriend several times at a northeast Houston home, KPRC Local 2 reported.

The shooting happened in the 5100 block of Lelia Street near Fontinot Street at about 6 a.m. Monday.

"Evidently (they) had some problems in the past," sad Bart Nabors with the Houston Police Homicide Division. "She was hit and taken to Ben Taub Hospital."

The woman's name and condition were not released.

Police said the man stopped by to talk to the woman. Witnesses told police he opened fire when the woman refused to see him.

The man ran away after shooting the woman, witnesses said.

Investigators have not released a description of the man.

"Information does indicate he did flee to the west, also the complainant lives over there ... the aunt lives here where the shooting occurred," said Nabors.

The woman's aunt and children were inside the home at the time of the shooting. Police said they were not injured.
