Car Burglaries Caught On Tape

Many cars in one southeast Houston neighborhood have been burglarized, and some of the crimes have been caught on tape, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.

A man who lives near Cullen Boulevard and Dallas Street said he's frustrated after his car has been broken into three times.

Last time the thieves got away with all kinds of valuables, so he decided to mount a surveillance camera on his home. He said three youngsters broke into his car again at around 3 a.m. Saturday.

"Who knows what they'll do next," said the man, who requested not to be identified. "Break in to our house and physically hurt us? I had to do something, anything I could think of, to fight it."

The burglaries have been happening just down the street from a convenience store where two men were shot to death during a robbery on June 3. Neighbors said they've had enough.

"It's disconcerting to have all of this crime happening. It's frustrating. It doesn't have to be this way," said Cindy Clugy, whose car has also been burglarized.

A Harris County Precinct 6 Constable's Office spokesman said the agency has been working burglary and robbery cases in the area. He said the they've arrested a man they think could be responsible for several break-ins. He said surveillance footage is a huge help.

"I think there's a huge fear. For me, it's the fear that small crimes become big crimes unless these kids are caught," said the man.
