HOUSTON -- A northwest Harris County neighborhood was swarming with sheriff's deputies after a shootout in the middle of a street Wednesday morning, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Harris County sheriff's deputies said several residents in the 17000 block of Davenway reported that a man was firing a gun at about 5 a.m.
The man had left the area by the time deputies arrived, investigators said.
"The initial two deputies that responded to the calls were talking to complainants," Deputy Thomas Gilliland said. "As they were interviewing the complainants, the suspect car drove by."
The man led deputies on a chase, officials said. It ended when the man hit a curb and blew out a tire on Loch Bruceray Drive near Wild Willow Lane.
Investigators said the man got out of the car and pointed the gun at deputies.
"The suspect fired his shotgun at the deputies," Gilliland said. "The deputies responded, both in fear of their lives."
The man led deputies on a foot chase though a few back yards and a bayou, investigators said. He was caught near the track at Langham Creek High School, deputies said.
Detectives said they are working to determine why the man was firing shots in the neighborhood. Deputies have not released the man's name.
One deputy suffered a wound to his face. Officials have not said when and how he was injured. He was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in good condition.
No else was wounded in the incident. Detectives are working to determine if any of the shots hit homes.
