3 Tied Up In Home Invasion

HPD: Thieves Got Away With Cash, Jewelry

POSTED: Friday, June 12, 2009
UPDATED: 5:21 pm CDT June 12, 2009

A homeowner and two contractors were robbed in a home invasion in Tanglewood on Friday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston police said one of the contractors was confronted at his truck, parked outside a home on Cedar Creek Drive near South Post Oak Lane at about 9:50 a.m.

Investigators said one attacker forced the contractor back inside the home and a second contractor followed them inside.

Two gunmen tied up the homeowner, John Parker, 67, and the contractors, and forced them to hand over their wallets and watches.

"They were able to get access to different parts of the house, and take jewelry and an undisclosed amount of cash," said Lt. Jesus Davila, with the HPD Robbery Division.

The thieves took off with cash and jewelry. Officials estimated the loss at $125,000.

"It would surprise me a person would break into a place like this in that fashion, and I would have to believe there was some other reason behind it. Either they knew there was something in there, or maybe had something against the owners or something like," neighbor Sidney McClendon said.

It's not the first time Parker has been targeted by gunmen, according to police. The car dealership he owns was robbed more than a year ago. But investigators said there is no evidence that the dealership robbery and the home invasion are related.

"At this point, we just don't have a motive. They came in, they wanted money. At this time, we're treating it at an aggravated robbery -- no specific item requested. They just wanted money," said Officer Kim Miller with the HPD Robbery Division.

The robbers were last seen speeding away in a gold SUV.

Police said the gunmen may have been wearing dreadlocks, were in their mid 20s, and may have spoken with Spanish accents. The robbery victims were not able to provide much more of a description than that.

Officers are still searching for the getaway car.

Armed robbery is a first-degree felony. The robbers could face up to 99 years in prison, if convicted.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
