HOUSTON -- A Harris County reserve deputy was charged with murder, KPRC Local 2 reported Monday.
Harris County Precinct 6 said that Jose Castillo, 39, is accused of shooting a man after a fight at a north Houston bar on Friday.
Investigators said two women got into a fight at Buffalo Fred's in the 2700 block of North Shepherd at about 2 a.m.
The club kicked out the people involved in the disturbance, including Castillo, officials said.
Behind the club, Castillo fired his gun into the air and then shot Angel Erevia Jr., 31, four times, investigators said.
Castillo was reportedly dating Erevia's estranged wife.
Castillo was off-duty at the time.
Castillo was fired from Precinct 6 for failure to follow departmental guidelines and for being charged with a felony.
"The tragedy with us is that he's been with me over 14 years. I've never had one disciplinary action on him. He's been a good reserve deputy -- fulfilling his obligations here. So, this is a shocker. I am in shock," said Harris County Precinct 6 Constable Victor Trevino.
Castillo was with the department since February of 1994 and worked in the civil division serving civil papers. Officials said he volunteered his time with the department and was never on payroll for the department.
Castillo was never issued a weapon, but was allowed to carry one without a permit as a peace officer.
Castillo's bond was set at $100,000. He is expected to turn himself in.
Investigators said Castillo admitted to the shooting.
Houston police are handling the investigation.
