HOUSTON -- Two people were fatally shot during a possible robbery at a convenience store Wednesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Harris County Precinct 6 deputy constables said multiple shots were fired at the Bestop Food Market on Harrisburg Boulevard near Milby Street shortly before 8:30 a.m.
One was killed at the store and the and the other died at a hospital, investigators said. Their identities were not released, but they were believed to be the store's owner and a clerk.
Police said they are working to determine if the victims fired back at their killers.
There were signs of a struggle in the shop, police said.
Detectives said the owner works at the store with his family. Officials have not said if the clerk was one of the owner's relatives.
"I'm here every day," Yolanda Ramirez said. "(One of the victims) was the best person, good-hearted man, did anything to anyone. I couldn't believe someone would do this to him. He would give up his shirt. He would help anyone. It's unbelievable."
Officials said there was another incident at the store a few weeks ago, but they aren't sure if it is connected to the killings.
Investigators said they do not know how many shooters were involved.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
