May 31 Show Links For 'Beyond The Headlines'

Show Airs 5:30 a.m. Sunday

This week's show takes a look at President Obama's nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, and the impressive success at YES Prep Public Schools.

If confirmed, Sotomayor would become the first Hispanic and third woman on the high court.

Host Kim Davis talked with two legal experts about the significance of this choice and what it means for the Supreme Court. Tom Forestier is a shareholder with Winstead Law Firm and a board member with the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston. Chris Garza is a corporate attorney and president of the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston. Both Forestier and Garza talked about Sotomayor's experience and background.

Chris Barbic is the founder and CEO of YES Prep Public Schools and is proving that given the right environment and system, any child can learn and excel in education. YES Prep has been recognized as the best public school in Houston by Newsweek, U.S. News & Report and the Houston Chronicle.

YES Prep is a a charter school with five campuses, a waiting list of more than 4,000 students and the goal of expanding to 10 campuses.
