Siblings Accused Of Adult Diaper Fraud

Brother, Sister Accused Of Defrauding Medicaid

UPDATED: 10:48 am CDT May 7, 2009

Two Houston siblings have been accused of running a scheme to defraud Medicaid by making false claims for adult urinary incontinence supplies, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.

Acting U.S. Attorney Tim Johnson said Benjamin Essien, 32, and Rose Essien, 28, were indicted on charges of conspiracy, multiple counts of health care fraud and aggravated identity theft.

The indictment alleges that between April 2004 and April 2006, the brother and sister routinely billed Medicaid for supplies they did not deliver to the Medicaid beneficiaries or delivered fewer supplies than for what was billed. The pair is also accused of billing for supplies that people did not need and/or had not been prescribed.

The siblings ran a company called Logic World Medical. They have been accused of billing Medicaid for $1,782,861 worth of claims and receiving $1,101,865.

The indictment also claims that the Essiens unlawfully used and transferred personal information of Medicaid beneficiaries and participating doctors.

The Essiens were arrested Wednesday and each had bond set at $50,000.
